Who is a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry may be helpful if one or more of the following applies to you:

  • Anxiety or fear of dentistry
  • Trouble getting numb
  • Sensitive gag reflex
  • Need multiple treatments
  • Negative past experiences

What to Expect Before, During, and After Sedation

Before sedation, you’ll have a personalized consultation to review your medical history, discuss your concerns, and determine the right level of sedation. During your visit, our experienced team will monitor your comfort and safety at every step. After sedation, patients typically recover quickly—most forms allow you to resume normal activities soon, though a companion may be needed to drive you home depending on the type used.

Sedation Dentistry Options

A variety of conscious and unconscious sedation methods are available to you at Rotem Dental Care. They include:

      • Oral conscious sedation: Oral medications can help you relax, especially during long procedures. You may take these medications in the office or before you come to your appointment. We’ll prescribe you a medication that’s best for you based on your medical history and the nature of the procedure.

      • Intravenous sedation: If you have a sensitive gag reflex or difficulty getting numb with dental injections, you could take advantage of our intravenous sedation dentistry.

      • Laughing gas: With laughing gas, you’ll be awake during the entire procedure but feel nothing. This method of conscious sedation is administered through a breathing mask and helps you feel calm and comfortable while you go to work.

      • Nap dentistry: If you’d rather snooze straight through your dental appointment, then nap dentistry is the sedation option for you. With nap dentistry, we’re also able to condense several procedures and appointments into one, so you’re saving time while sound asleep!

I can’t tell you how welcoming the staff is here, after not having seen a dentist in almost 40 years. I can’t tell you how hard it was for me to just get in the car and drive over there. But as soon as I walked in the door they were smiling. They were friendly. They really make you very comfortable here. I didn’t have to wait long; next thing I knew, I was getting my pictures taken, and I had my cleaning. Then I had the meeting with the dentist, and the whole time, they were just so comforting and welcoming and open. I suggest anybody who is not a fan of the dentist or afraid of the dentist give them a shot, and this is coming from someone who has such high anxiety.

“Treatment was exactly as described to me. All work done in one appointment under sedation. I could not ask for more. Doctor Rotem and staff handled my fear issues compassionately and made me feel very comfortable.”
